Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The minimum wage for the award of public contracts in Brandenburg is to rise to 13 euros per hour on May 1st.

"May 1st this year will be a good day for work in Brandenburg," said SPD parliamentary group leader Erik Stohn on Tuesday about a draft law to increase the minimum wage that is to be passed in the upcoming state parliament session.

"The minimum wage of 13 euros is necessary so that employees do not have to rely on state support in old age."

So far, a minimum wage of 10.85 euros has been in force in Brandenburg since January 1st.

The nationwide minimum wage is 9.50 euros per hour.

With an amendment, the red-black-green government factions want to ensure that the minimum wage regulation for deliveries and services only applies from 5000 euros and for construction work only from 10,000 euros order volume.

So far, this limit was 3000 euros.

This should avoid excessive bureaucratic effort for smaller orders, said CDU parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann as a justification.
