Wunsiedel (dpa / lby) - For over a year, the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge has been waiting for a decision on its lawsuit on the power line "SuedOstLink", now it is following up: The European Court of Justice should decide on the needs of the route, the district demands in an application to the Federal Administrative Court.

The so-called Federal Requirements Plan Act - i.e. the law in which the requirement is specified - is “illegal and inapplicable”, lawyer Wolfgang Baumann justified the application on Tuesday at a digital press conference.

If the European Court of Justice approves the district, the construction of the route would be obsolete.

A new report on behalf of the district doubts the need.

"SuedOstLink" is not necessary for the power supply of Bavaria, explained expert Lorenz Jarass.

There are effective and cheaper alternatives.

District Administrator Peter Berek (CSU) emphasized that the district will use “all possibilities and opportunities” to take action against the power lines.

The district had already filed a lawsuit against the plans of the Federal Network Agency in January 2020.

The Federal Administrative Court has not yet decided on this.

“SuedOstLink” will in future bring excess electricity from the northeast to Bavaria and thus secure the electricity supply.

According to the planning of the Federal Network Agency, the route has four sections.

In Bavaria, the corridor from Hof is to run east from Marktredwitz and Weiden to Isar near Landshut.

The technical implementation and the exact route of the underground cable still have to be decided.

Electricity could flow from 2025.
