Berlin (dpa / bb) - Despite major economic difficulties in the Corona crisis, only a few Berlin companies are still going bankrupt.

According to the responsible district court in Charlottenburg, 265 proceedings were registered in February, a third less than in February 2020. Since April of last year, the numbers have been significantly below the respective previous year's figures.

Because the anti-corona measures made it difficult or even impossible for many companies to do business, the obligation to file for bankruptcy was suspended for a large number of companies.

For over-indebted companies that are still pending the payment of state aid, the obligation to file for bankruptcy remains suspended until the end of April.

Last year there had been 3277 bankruptcy applications at the district court.

That was a good 24 percent less than in the previous year.

As a result, fewer bankruptcy applications were filed in January of this year - 297 after 392 in January 2020.
