The LREM bill on "global security" arrives Tuesday in the Senate for its examination at first reading.

But the controversial Article 24, which provoked a strong outcry on the left, has been completely rewritten.

According to information from Europe 1, the government should not oppose this new version.

It is the return of a controversial text.

Adopted at first reading in the National Assembly four months ago, the LREM bill on "global security" arrives Tuesday in the Senate, where elected officials will begin their examination this week.

But while the text is still rejected by the left and the associations for the defense of freedoms, certain crucial points of the bill have been rewritten, such as the very controversial article 24.

The initial version of this article, adopted by the deputies, had sparked heated debate, because it planned to penalize the dissemination of malicious images of the police by amending the 1881 law on freedom of the press.

This version had provoked an outcry among journalists and parliamentarians, as well as a mobilization in the street.

The left asks for the article to be deleted

In committee, the senators preferred to no longer refer to this law and create a new offense in the Penal Code: an offense of provocation to identification.

This is aimed, for example, at the publication of personal data under images that identify police or gendarmes.

But for left-wing senators, the account is still not there.

The latter request the deletion of the article, which they still consider too vague despite its rewriting.

According to information from Europe 1, the government should not oppose this new version of article 24. A way of not relaunching endless debates in Parliament and putting an end to this bad soap opera .
