[Global Network Report] CNN quoted a senior US government official as saying on the 14th that the Biden administration started trying to contact North Korea through multiple channels last month.

But so far, North Korea has not responded.

"In order to reduce the risk of escalation, we have been in contact with the North Korean government through multiple channels since mid-February," the official said. "So far, we have not received any response from Pyongyang."

CNN said the official did not provide further details, but he mentioned that the U.S. government has been conducting cross-departmental assessments of the country’s North Korea policy.

The official said that during the evaluation process, the US government agencies consulted former government officials who have relevant experience in formulating North Korean policies, including some officials during the Trump administration.

In addition, the United States maintains contact with its allies Japan and South Korea.

CNN also quoted a number of sources familiar with internal discussions as saying that when the contact news broke out, US lawmakers and major allies were anxiously awaiting the release of details about Biden's North Korea policy.

It is expected that the Biden administration will publicly announce the news in the next few weeks after completing its policy evaluation.

The US State Department claimed on February 12 local time that responding to North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs is a top priority for the United States, and Washington is still committed to the denuclearization of North Korea.

On the morning of February 4, South Korean President Moon Jae-in stated on his social media that he had talked with US President Biden on the phone. The two sides discussed further upgrading the Korean-US alliance and expressed that they would work together for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
