At least 138 protesters have been counted to have died since the coup on the 1st of last month in Myanmar, the United Nations said on the 15th.

"We witnessed a bloodshed weekend in Myanmar," said UN spokesman Stefan Dujarik at a regular briefing. "According to the United Nations Human Rights Office, at least 138 peace protesters, including women and children, were killed in violence." I said.

Spokesman Dujarik explained that the figure includes 18 people who died on the 13th and 38 people who died on the 14th.

However, the actual death toll is likely to be higher.

Local media, Myanmar Now, reported that at least 59 people died in Yangon on the 14th as a result of aggregating data from three hospitals.

Regarding the incident, UN Secretary-General Antoniu Gutechs said, "I strongly condemn the continuing violence aimed at peace protesters and the violations of the most basic human rights of the Myanmar people." "We reaffirm our position," said a spokesman for Dujarik.

Prior to the briefing by Dujarik, UN Special Envoy Christine Schraner Berginer also issued a statement condemning the military, saying that the Myanmar military is ignoring requests for restraint and dialogue recommendations from the international community, including the UN Security Council.
