"In recent years, the integration of the two sides of the strait has accelerated and the mainland's economy and society have continued to develop. This is a good opportunity for Taiwan compatriots to develop in the mainland." Xie Wensheng, chairman of the Taiwanese Enterprise Association of Hainan Province, shared his thoughts in an interview with China News Service Entrepreneurship stories, while encouraging Taiwanese youth to seize the opportunities for development on the mainland
In 2008, Xie Wensheng, who was engaged in tourism in Taiwan, aimed at the Hainan market and came to Qiong to find the "complementarity" between the two islands, and act as the "matchmaker" for cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges.
Over the past 13 years, more than 300 cross-strait investigation and exchange delegations have exchanged visits through Xie Wensheng's matchmaking.
Xie Wensheng found that agricultural exchanges are an important part of economic cooperation between Qiongtai and Taiwan. Taiwan-funded agricultural enterprises spread across 18 cities and counties in Hainan, introducing many excellent varieties and technologies from Taiwan to promote the development of local modern agriculture.
However, Qiongtai has a similar geography and similar climate, and Hainan's leisure agriculture has a lot to offer.
Since 2017, Xie Wensheng has rented 1,600 acres of land in Haikou to cultivate Taiwan's high-quality passion fruit seedlings and cocoa seedlings to create an ecologically shared farm.
Xie Wensheng said that the passion fruit industry in Puli Township, Nantou County, Taiwan is developed. After more than 40 years of development, an industrial chain integrating seedling breeding, production and planting, sales and processing has been formed.
The climate of Hainan is very suitable for the growth of passion fruit.
"Especially after September, other areas cannot be planted, but Hainan can achieve two types a year to achieve differentiated production and make up for the gap in the mainland market."
Under the guidance of Taiwanese businessmen, local villagers began to grow passion fruit on a large scale.
Xie Wensheng provided the villagers with low-cost fruit seedlings developed by him, provided free technical guidance, insured the fruit, and drove the villagers to get rich together.
At present, high-quality passion fruit seedling breeding bases have been built in Haikou, Changjiang, Tunchang and other places in Hainan. The radiation has driven farmers to plant more than 20,000 mu of passion fruit, with an annual output value exceeding 300 million yuan, which is recognized by local farmers.
At present, Xie Wensheng's career in Hainan is developing steadily, and will expand into the field of deep processing of agricultural products in the future.
At the beginning of this year, Xie Wensheng also cooperated with other Taiwanese businessmen to establish an environmentally friendly building materials company in Qiong to improve Hainan's ecological and environmentally friendly circular economy.
There are also many Taiwanese businessmen like Xie Wensheng in Hainan. They have gone from pioneers in golf, entertainment and culture industries, to "vanguards" in Qiong-Taiwan agriculture and tourism cooperation, and then to "new forces" in fields such as health care and international trade. They continue to follow the trend of the times and make positive contributions to the development of Hainan.
Up to now, Hainan has accumulatively registered about 2,000 Taiwan-funded enterprises.
Hainan, which is building a free trade port, has attracted many young people from Taiwan to work and start businesses.
"Young people are highly educated and innovative, and the older generation of Taiwanese businessmen have experience, capital and technology. We are their strong backing." Xie Wensheng said that the Hainan Provincial Taiwan Association has absorbed nearly 60 Taiwanese youths in the past two years. Next, the Hainan Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce will be established to build a platform for Taiwanese and Taiwanese companies to "invite investment, secure business, and support business".
In recent years, relevant specific measures to benefit Taiwan have been implemented successively.
Hainan has issued policies such as the "Implementation Plan for Promoting Exchanges and Cooperation between Hainan and Taiwan to Help the Construction of Free Trade Ports" to provide Taiwanese compatriots and Taiwanese enterprises with broader development space.
This year's government work report also proposes to improve the systems and policies that guarantee the well-being of Taiwan compatriots and enjoy equal treatment on the mainland, and promote cross-strait exchanges, cooperation, and integrated development.
In Xie Wensheng's view, Taiwanese businessmen and youths should take advantage of the development of the mainland to boldly explore and innovate, and give full play to their expertise in this hot land.
