Berlin (dpa / bb) - A car driver who was driving the wrong way on Berlin's A100 city motorway and who was then chased with the police has been sentenced to 15 months' probation.

The Tiergarten district court found the 34-year-old guilty of intentional intoxication on Monday.

The man's license was also withdrawn for a year, as the court press office further announced.

The defendant relied on a lack of memories.

At the beginning of the trial, the 34-year-old said he was heavily drunk and only came to when the police checked him out.

He apologizes.

He was glad that no one was harmed, said the defendant.

He and his wife drank tequila after a visit to the local pub.

The mood was good.

"I don't remember getting into the car."

According to the indictment, the 34-year-old was driving in the wrong direction on the city freeway with his mother's car in June 2020 - although he consumed alcohol and was no longer able to drive the vehicle safely.

He had "steered the car in a serpentine three lanes".

When he was met by an alerted police patrol with a siren and flashing lights on, he continued his journey - "he decided to evade a control".

The 34-year-old raced at up to 140 kilometers per hour - although a maximum of 80 km / h was allowed on the route.

Only after leaving the motorway could the defendant be slowed down by another police vehicle.

There was a collision with sheet metal damage.

The man resisted his preliminary arrest with kicks and head butts.
