Ludwigslust (dpa) - Before the federal-state conference call on vaccination against Covid-19 this Wednesday, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) called for family doctors to be involved earlier than planned.

"My demand is very clear that the resident doctors are not only included from April 19, as the health ministers have now decided, but rather," said Schwesig on Monday when visiting a corona rapid test center in Ludwigslust.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, doctors in private practice are to receive 15,000 vaccine doses from the manufacturer Astrazeneca from next Monday in order to protect themselves and the practice staff.

They should also vaccinate the chronically ill, said Schwesig.

She also demanded “that additional vaccine, which may come from the European Union, should then be used even more intensively”.

According to Schwesig, the medical practices should be a supplement to the vaccination centers so that they can go further.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) warned against false expectations about the participation of general practitioners in the corona vaccination campaign.

Wednesday should not produce any new disappointments, said Merkel on Monday after information from the German Press Agency of participants in online deliberations of the CDU board.

You hope for an agreement with the countries in the deliberations.

Everyone should receive a vaccination offer until the federal election in September.

Merkel and the prime ministers want to set the schedule for the inclusion of general practitioners in the vaccination campaign on Wednesday evening.
