Ludwigslust (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to have its primary school teachers and educators with the first vaccination against the corona virus by the end of the second week of April.

The six districts have agreed on this goal, as the district administrator of Ludwigslust-Parchim, Stefan Sternberg (SPD), said on Monday at the opening of a rapid test center in Ludwigslust.

His district plans to enable all around 4,500 primary school teachers and educators there to have their first vaccination by Easter.

Around 1,300 teachers and educators have already received their first tip.

The second vaccination for this occupational group should then be given by the summer vacation.

"And then after the summer vacation we will have a very high level of stability within this group," said Sternberg.

On March 2, the country released the Covid-19 vaccinations for teachers and educators after pressure from the municipalities.

The rapid test center in Ludwigslust, which opened on Monday, is one of 16 that the district intends to launch by March 24th.

On Friday, three rapid test centers in north-west Mecklenburg had already started operations and on the weekend one on the German-Polish border.

In Western Pomerania-Rügen, test centers in Stralsund, Ribnitz-Damgarten and Grimmen should offer rapid tests from Monday.

Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) said in Ludwigslust that she was grateful for the commitment of the municipalities and the organizations that operate the centers.

The mayor of Ludwigslust Reinhard Mach (independent) and District Administrator Sternberg criticized the fact that the quick test results are only valid until midnight of one day.

They called for the validity to be set at 24 hours, regardless of what time of day the test was carried out.

Schwesig also said she found it impractical.

Every citizen in Germany should be entitled to a free Corona rapid test per week.

Control is likely to be a problem because the test centers are not digitally networked.

In the center in Ludwigslust, which opened on Monday, the personal data would not be collected, said the managing director of the local DRK as operator, Christoph Richter.
