“The Coast Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is receiving NATO's second permanent naval unit (SNMG2) in the territorial waters of Georgia.

The division includes: the flagship Cristobal Colon (Spain), Regina Maria (Romania), Kemalreis (Turkey) and Smeli (Bulgaria), ”the statement said.

Georgia noted that the visit of the NATO naval unit during the pandemic is a "clear signal of support" to the republic and the result of cooperation in strengthening security in the Black Sea.

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, joint exercises will include maneuvers of ships without crew interaction.

NATO ships will stay in Georgia until March 18 - until the completion of the planned exercises of the coast guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic.

In December 2020, NATO ministers agreed on cooperation with Georgia and Ukraine.
