Berlin (dpa / bb) - From the point of view of Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci (SPD), the vaccination sequence should not be changed at the moment.

However, this is definitely worth considering for a later point in time.

"I think it is right now, when we have not yet vaccinated the chronically ill and those over 70 years of age, that we stick to the prioritization," said Kalayci on Monday at the meeting of the health committee in the House of Representatives.

"We adhere to the vaccination ordinance," said the SPD politician.

But she also sees the time coming when that could change.

"It is very bureaucratic, as it is currently planned," admitted Kalayci.

If significantly more vaccine is available, the doctors in private practice are also vaccinated and the most important groups are protected, one has to see whether one then says "Now we are going to expand".

Berlin could not decide that alone, it had to happen nationwide, said the health senator.

Among the groups currently designated for vaccinations according to the federal vaccination ordinance, the over 70-year-olds and the chronically ill are the most important, said Kalayci.

"Those over 70 years of age in Berlin are over 313,000 people and the chronically ill over 400,000 people."
