Hanover (dpa / lni) - The state government of Lower Saxony warns of the dangers of a short-term Mallorca vacation and is thinking about testing returning travelers at airports.

The head of the state chancellery is currently consulting with the federal government, said government spokeswoman Anke Pörksen on Monday in Hanover.

The people who now wanted to travel to Mallorca should know that they are exposing themselves to a certain risk.

People from all over Germany and Europe meet on site and there is a risk of infections spreading.

And even if a PCR test at the airport turns out negative, this does not mean that a returnee is not already carrying the virus.

"You bring a real problem into the country with your eyesight," said Poerksen.

"Nobody has to go on vacation," said the deputy head of the state government's Corona crisis team, Claudia Schröder.

"I can only advise you to think twice about it," she emphasized.

"People don't get sick at their holiday destination, they infect others on the way back and at home and continue to spread the virus."

Poerksen and Schröder emphasized that going it alone in Lower Saxony when dealing with returnees in terms of tests and quarantine makes no sense.

A regulation for which there must be a legal basis should be made nationwide.

The federal government decided on Friday to remove Mallorca and other regions in Spain, Portugal and Denmark from the list of corona risk areas and thus also to lift the travel warning from the Federal Foreign Office.

This means that since Sunday it has been possible to vacation on the Germans' favorite island again without quarantine and mandatory testing upon return.

A negative test only has to be presented when entering Spain.
