The Greens have been intensively ventilating a traffic light coalition for months.

From their point of view, this is supported by the fact that the fairytale story of the green chancellery could suddenly take on real shape.

In a traffic light election campaign, Annalena Baerbock or Robert Habeck would primarily compete with SPD top candidate Olaf Scholz, less with Markus Söder (CSU) or Armin Laschet (CDU).

Second, the left, as a government partner in a red-red-green alliance, is viewed as unpredictable in terms of foreign policy.

And thirdly, it would be much more difficult for the Union to paint a red-red-green ghost on the wall in the federal election campaign.

All of this makes the traffic light so attractive for the SPD.

But: can you seriously imagine that an FDP leader Christian Lindner will elect a Robert Habeck as chancellor after September 26th?
