Covid in France: Jean Castex announces a bonus for "second line" workers

The Macron bonus is back, this time for so-called “second line” workers.

All employees in sectors exposed to the public and to health hazards for a year but who until now had not received special support.

Employees of supermarkets, those of transport, or construction workers, may be paid a tax-exempt bonus of up to 2,000 euros.

This is one of the announcements made in Matignon this Monday evening, at the end of the third social conference bringing together the government and the social partners.

For young people, particularly weakened by the crisis, the hiring assistance system is extended.

Supermarket cashiers, maintenance workers, construction workers, they were not on the front line like healthcare staff but in front of the public and therefore very exposed to the virus.

It is to take this reality into account that the government comes up with the idea of ​​a bonus.

Its amount may go up to 1,000 euros for “

 all their employees

 ” in the exposed sectors.

At the end of the social conference with the unions and representatives of the employers, Prime Minister Jean Castex even specified that this bonus could reach 2,000 euros for certain companies which are making efforts to promote these professions.

The tax-exempt premium exempt from social contributions is only a proposal and is not compulsory.

It could cost the state a budgetary effort of 2.4 billion euros according to Matignon's calculations.

In addition, Jean Castex also announced the extension of two mechanisms to help young people access the world of work.

Apprenticeship aids, maintained until the end of the year and the hiring bonus which will continue until May 31.
