It is on behalf of the government that the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning has carried out the comprehensive survey.

There are no comprehensive statistics on construction defects in Sweden and therefore the survey is based on surveys and in-depth interviews.

70 percent of the damage is due to leakage

The survey shows that moisture and water-related damage make up about 70 percent of construction damage.

These are often flat roofs, courtyard terraces, recessed balconies and points where different facade materials meet.

- We concluded that we are very bad at making our houses tight, says Mats Sjökvist, project manager at the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning.

During the year, the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning will make the knowledge available to the construction industry.

This includes informing about the risks of flat roofs.

The starting point for the survey is that there are major socio-economic gains from avoiding errors and shortcomings in construction.

In the video above, the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning presents how much the building damage costs - every year.
