Haldensleben (dpa / sa) - To protect against avian influenza, all poultry in the Börde district must be kept in closed stables or under protective devices until further notice.

At the beginning of March, two dead wild birds were found in the district, in which the avian influenza of the subtype H5N8 had been detected, the district announced as justification.

Previously, the stabling requirement only applied to certain risk areas.

Now all poultry such as chickens, pheasants, ducks, geese and ratites, as well as other captive birds, must be housed.

This is to ensure that there is no contact with wild birds.

The district will randomly check on site whether the general decree is being adhered to, it said.

In the event of violations, the control is subject to a charge for the person concerned.

On March 4, the district reported a wild goose found dead at the Dreileben / Drackenstedt train station, in which the highly contagious variant of the virus had been detected.

The second dead wild bird was a great egret that was found near Eilsleben on March 9th.
