Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Association of Towns and Municipalities has asked the red-black government coalition in Hanover to hold on to the planned expansion of medical study places.

According to his information, the government does not want to implement this central recommendation of the study commission on medical care, said the President of the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and Towns, Marco Trips, on Monday.

There is a shortage of 200 places for medical students in the country.

"If this is not counteracted by increasing the number of study places, then the family doctor system will be brought up against the wall," said Trips.

He is aware that the establishment of the study places is very expensive and the finances are severely affected because of the Corona crisis.

Since it is a vital question of health care in rural areas, one must seriously question the debt brake.

On Tuesday, the state parliament will deal with the report of the study commission.
