Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - In Saarland, all almost 120,000 schoolchildren have been going back to schools at least temporarily since Monday.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Education in Saarbrücken said the start of the remaining grades in alternating classes between face-to-face and learning from home went smoothly.

The primary schools had already started alternating on February 22nd, the 5th and 6th grades as well as the high school graduation class 2022 have been there since March 8th.

"It is important that the schoolchildren of all levels now have the opportunity to study on site in their schools again before the Easter break," said Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot (SPD).

First of all, the focus is “first of all on arriving at school”.

Then “step by step the time spent learning from home will have to be worked through”.

In the next week we will discuss how things will go after the Easter break.

"For far too many children and young people, an incredible amount of time has been lost in school," said the minister.

Her goal is to return to face-to-face classes with all students after the holidays under pandemic conditions.
