Violence between young people led to the death of two teenagers at the end of February in Essonne.

Invited from Europe 1 on Sunday, the Secretary of State in charge of children and families went to meet the mayors of this department.

"All tell us that the parents are not resigning, they are just overwhelmed," he says.

INTERVIEW

At the end of February, two 14-year-old teenagers, Lilibelle and Toumani, lost their lives during two different brawls in Essonne, after being stabbed.

Invited from Europe 1 on Sunday, the Secretary of State in charge of children and families to the Minister of Solidarity and Health, Adrien Taquet, says he went to Essonne "at the beginning of last week to the meeting mayors who had to face these tragedies ".

"All tell us that in a large majority of cases, the parents have not resigned, they are just overwhelmed," he says.

"More support and relaying the parents"

For the Secretary of State, there is therefore an urgent need to "further support and relay the parents".

"It is necessary that the adults reinvest the street, go in contact with the young people", he insists.

"The mayor of Dourdan, one of the municipalities concerned (especially in the brawl which led to the death of Lilibelle, note), Paolo De Carvalho says that we are facing orphans before 8 am, after 3 pm and during the holidays '. "

To avoid new tragedies, Adrien Taquet therefore considers it necessary to "relay the parents who cannot cope".

To do this, the Minister Delegate in charge of Citizenship to the Minister of the Interior, Marlène Schiappa, announced on Sunday the creation of a parents' committee against harassment, in particular around associations.

But for Adrien Taquet, "there are also specialized educators" to "bring more authority" to young people.

Professionals on which the government relies.

"As part of the strategy to fight against poverty, we have proposed to the department to finance, which is within their competence, the posts of educators", underlines the Secretary of State.

"And as part of the recovery plan, we are funding 300 positions for specialized educators. So there is an investment from the State."
