Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - SPD top candidate Andreas Stoch has probably slightly improved his result from 2016 in the state elections in the Heidenheim constituency.

According to preliminary results from the Heidenheim district on Sunday evening, Stoch reached 20.2 percent.

He probably ended up in third place in the constituency.

Most of the votes, 25.8 percent, went to the Green candidate, Martin Grath, who is likely to secure the direct mandate again.

The CDU politician Magnus Welsch is therefore just ahead of Stoch with 22.4 percent.

In 2016, Stoch entered the state parliament with 19.4 percent of the vote on the second mandate in the Heidenheim constituency.

The Green Martin Grath had already won the constituency in 2016 with 26.1 percent of the vote.

The CDU politician Magnus Welsch was just behind with 25.1 percent.
