14 March 2021 Sofia Goggia will compete in the finals in Lenzerheide (Switzerland) to defend the leadership in the ranking in the descent on Wednesday 17 and thus conquer the World Cup in the queen of alpine disciplines.

This was announced on social media by the same Italian athlete who was injured on January 31 in Garmisch.

After a period of rest and positive rehabilitation, with the ok of the Fisi doctors, Goggia had put her skis back in recent days in Livigno, receiving positive sensations.

Now the decision to return to the race.

Sofia Goggia currently has 480 points in the standings - thanks to a second place and four victories in the series - behind her are the Swiss Corinne Suter with 410 points and Lara Gut-Behrami with 383.

In Sofia - with the victory awarding 100 points, the second under 80, the third 60 and then down to climb - it would be enough to finish 8th in the last race to have the mathematical certainty of winning the World Cup, even if Suter wins.

In the event of Laar Gut-Behrami's victory, however, Sofia would only need a 15 / o place and her second downhill Cup would be hers, after the one in 2018 snatched from Lindsey Vonn.
