Gelsenkirchen (AP) - Fans of FC Schalke 04 have started a petition on the Internet to commit Ralf Rangnick as the new sports director.
By late Saturday evening, this campaign, which had only started 24 hours earlier, had more than 23,000 supporters.
According to consistent media reports, a group of influential Schalke supporters from business and politics would like to bring the 62-year-old Rangnick back to the club after this season as head of sport, for which he worked as a coach from 2004 to 2005 and in 2011.
Most recently Rangnick worked for RB Leipzig for eight years and led the club from the Regionalliga to the Champions League.
The "Bild am Sonntag" already writes of a "power struggle for Rangnick" among Schalke because the supervisory board of the bottom of the Bundesliga table, who is about to be relegated, prefers Markus Krösche according to information from "BamS" and the "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" from RB Leipzig for a sporty rebuilding.
