The crossbar deprived Polish sniper Robert Lewandowski of 3 goals scored on Saturday, but he finally managed to score the third goal for Bayern Munich during the 3-1 victory at Werder Bremen, to take a new step in his journey towards breaking all records.

Lewandowski is close to equating and possibly breaking the record for legendary Gerd Muller, who scored 40 goals in the 1972 season.

The Polish scorer scored a goal for the Bavarian club yesterday with a shot from close range, bringing his total to 32 goals in 25 matches in the Bundesliga.

With 9 rounds remaining until the end of the season, the Bavarian sniper needs to score one goal per match to surpass Muller's record.

Lewandowski approached a new step from Muller’s record, the historic scorer for the Bundesliga with 365 goals, after he scored his 268th goal yesterday to share the top scorer list with Schalke legend Klaus Fischer.

Lewandowski wrote through his Twitter account, "I am proud of the number equal to the legend Fischer .. I always wanted to help Bayern win new titles through my goals."

Long ago it seemed like Lewandowski was on his way to surpassing Fischer's number, but is he chasing Mueller's number?

"Even this record was considered not to be broken, but it is not completely far from being pursued," Bayern wrote on its official website.

Bayern player Leon Goritska said, "He has to play for a few more years to break this record," noting that Lewandowski, 32, "is in very good physical shape."

Bayern assistant coach Hermann Gerland confirmed that Lewandowski was the best striker in the world right now, without any doubt.

Gerland laughed about talking about Lewandowski's record hunt for Mueller, but said, "He reached a great level and rarely gets hurt ... without doubt he has the ability to continue playing for several years to come."

Lewandowski extended his contract with Bayern until 2023 and may stay longer than that after it was reported for a long time that Real Madrid is seeking to join him.

For his part, his colleague Thomas Mueller said, "Levy knows how important he is to the team. He fights for his goals and for the team in every match."

Bayern explained that Lewandowski has scored against 16 of the 17 competitors in the Bundesliga this season, and Leipzig remains the only team where the Polish striker failed to score.

Lewandowski has a chance to enter history from the widest gates if he succeeds in rocking Leipzig during the confrontation between the two teams on the third of next April.
