SVT recently revealed that the Swedish vehicle manufacturer Scania 2016 delivered a specially equipped luxury bus to a company with connections to India's Minister of Transport.

The bus was intended for his daughter's wedding.

But the transport minister's lawyer describes the media information as a "deliberate and malicious attempt to create a scandal" by publishing "fabricated accusations", writes Dagens industri, which refers to the Indian business newspaper Economic Times.

Turbulence in India

The story of the luxury bus was part of SVT's revelations about Scania's suspected bribery deals that have received much attention in India.

The hashtag Scania Scam has trended on Indian twitter and Indian newspapers focus primarily on information that the Minister of Transport Nitin Gadkari's family has received a Scania bus for the Minister's daughter's wedding.

It is SVT's Assignment review which, in collaboration with the German television channel ZDF, has obtained the information about the ministerial bus from Scania's internal investigation.

Threatens mood

Nitin Gadkari's lawyer now demands that SVT's and ZDF's publications be removed and that the media companies apologize no later than today, Sunday, in order to avoid a lawsuit for libel.

- We have every reason to be proud of our review and publication and have not been reached by any information that indicates that we would be wrong about something so the publication is fixed, says Axel Björklund, responsible publisher at Uppdrag Granskning to SVT Nyheter.
