  • The Vélodrome stadium vaccination center opens this Monday in Marseille, seven days a week, and for an as yet undetermined period.

  • It aims to step up the pace of vaccinations for people over 75 and over 50 with high-risk disease or co-morbidity.

The place, the "house of OM", has a strong symbolic charge.

As of Monday, the Velodrome in Marseille will become a municipal center for vaccination against Covid-19.

It will be open six days a week, for an indefinite period.

The “Bargemon village” ephemeral space, installed outside in front of the town hall, must be dismantled during the weekend.

The city of Marseille now has three vaccination centers: the central mary, the town hall of the 15-16th arrondissement in the northern districts, and therefore the Vélodrome in the southern districts.

A fourth center, opened in the 5th arrondissement, is reserved for priority health personnel.

Why a vaccination center at the Vélodrome?

The mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan has been proclaiming it since the end of February, he is "ready to open the Velodrome stadium and to vaccinate 10,000 people per week".

And to add: "I want to do it.

Send vaccines!

The vaccines have apparently arrived, in all cases the city of Marseille intends to give a boost to the vaccination campaign, under the aegis of the ARS Paca.

"This large center was specially created in order to intensify the rhythm of vaccinations and to protect the population as quickly as possible from the epidemic", indicated the town hall on Friday evening.

The Velodrome allows a large-scale vaccination: on France Bleu Provence last Thursday, Michèle Rubirola affirmed that it would be possible to go "up to eight to ten vaccination lines".

How many people will be vaccinated?

This is the big question, which depends above all on the vaccines available.

The starting rate should be, if the doses are available, 500 daily vaccinations.

"The goal is to quickly increase to 1,000 people vaccinated per day", indicate the marine firefighters of Marseille, mobilized on the ground, with also the reinforcement of the liberal health personnel.

At the Vélodrome, there will be around 40 firefighters each day, against a dozen in each of the other two vaccination centers in the city of Marseille.

At this time, the battalion is not expected to vaccinate, as a recent decree allows.

What vaccine will be used at the Vélodrome?

As with other vaccination centers in the city, the Velodrome will receive Pfizer and Astra Zeneca vaccines, provided by the ARS.

Of the 500 doses expected on Monday, 300 should be from AstraZeneca and 200 from Pfizer.

According to national recommendations, Pfizers are for older people.

The vaccinations will take place in the lounges of the Vélodrome, on the Ganay stand side.

Who can get vaccinated?

No change on this side.

The city of Marseille is still deploying phase 1 of the national vaccination plan, namely in priority people aged 75 and over and those over 50 with a high-risk pathology or suffering from comorbidity.

The latter must have a medical prescription to be vaccinated as a priority.

The conditions are recalled when making an appointment.

Note that vaccination is free for everyone.
