Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's top Green Party candidate Bettina Jarasch has asked the Senate to change the Corona rules on sport for young people.

"I think it is wrong that Berlin, of all things, deviates from the decisions of the Prime Minister's Conference when it comes to offers for children," said the Green politician, who is leading her party in the election campaign for the House of Representatives.

Children and adolescents in particular are severely impaired in their physical and psychological well-being during the pandemic.

"The Senator for the Interior should therefore follow the nationwide line and give older children from 13 to 14 the same opportunities in team sports as younger children," said Jarasch.

"In addition, the Senate should quickly develop a self-test and rapid test strategy to combat pandemics for sport and support clubs and private providers financially in the implementation," said the Green politician.

The Senate decided last week to enable more outdoor sports than before despite the Corona crisis.

After that, joint outdoor sports are permitted in fixed groups of up to 20 children up to 12 years of age.

In previous consultations between the federal government and the federal states, an age limit of 14 years had been discussed.

At this point Berlin pleaded for stricter regulation.
