March 14, 2021 Farewell Marvin Hagler. Boxing loses one of its legendary champions. One of the greatest middleweights in history. He died in the night in New Hampshire, as his wife made it known in a post on social media, without giving further information on the causes of death.

Hagler made a very long mess tin. He reached the world title after 7 years of professional boxing and 50 matches. But when he ascended the throne he remained undefeated for seven long years, from 1980 to 1987, with 12 defenses of the title. In fifteen seasons in the ring he was only defeated three times, and each time it was a controversial verdict.

Very technical and powerful left-handed, Marvin loved battle and his face full of scars told of a very lived story in the ring and full of passion. He wanted to be called 'wonderful', so he added to his name Marvin also that of Marvelous, precisely Marvelous.

Many of the greatest middleweights of his era have passed along his path, such as Roberto Duran, 'hands of stone', the only one of the greats who finished up his challenge. And then again Thomas Hearns, John Mugabi, Domingo Roldan: Hagler never backed down, sending them all to the mat.

The match against the Italian Vito Antuofermo remains in memory, it was November 30, 1979: Hagler missed the assault on the world title in a memorable match in 15 rounds in Las Vegas, which ended in a draw. The blue was the holder of the title and therefore kept it, but ended the fight in a terrifying condition, a mask of blood on his face, it took him 70 stitches. The Syrian Mustafa Hamsho fared better, just 55 points. The title instead Marvelous took it in 1980 snatching it from the British Alan Minter, 'eyes of ice'. In 1982 he defended the title against Fulgencio Obelmeijas at the Ariston Theater in Sanremo. He often came to Italy, for a while he also lived in Milan, his wife was Neapolitan.

The Marvelous beat that he was a marvel, powerful and also elegant. He prepared his matches with great care, meticulous, had an almost religious conception of boxing, and when he felt betrayed and robbed of the title, he left the ring and didn't want to hear more. not even very tempting purses could make him back off his decision.

His career ended on April 6, 1987 at the end of the match against Ray Sugar Leonard that the judges gave to the rival, but with a not unanimous verdict. Hagler was very angry, never accepted that result considering it piloted, and took the irrevocable decision to retire, rejected rich economic offers for a rematch with Leonard, and devoted himself to being a TV commentator. Sudden death today.
