500,000 migrants were denied the right to stay in the European Union in 2019, less than a third returned voluntarily to their country or were returned.

Faced with this finding, the EU plans to restrict visas for countries that do not cooperate as of this summer.

“

The goal is to have better cooperation on readmissions.

We must put pressure on third countries

, ”explains the European Commissioner for Home Affairs.

“

But if we manage to make enough progress, we are also ready to make proposals for more generous visa policies

 ,” she assures us.

The 27 must draw up a list of countries which do not accept the return of their nationals in an illegal situation in Europe.

Negotiations will then begin to decide on visa policies to be adopted according to the agreements reached.
