Görlitz (dpa / sn) - Before the secondary schools open on Monday (March 15), the Görlitz district administrator Bernd Lange (CDU) has called for mandatory corona tests for the staff.

"In view of the renewed increase in the number of infections and, above all, the sharp increase in diseases among children and adolescents, I think it is questionable at this point in time to start classroom training without additional precautionary measures," said the district administrator on Sunday.

"Just because tests are not yet available everywhere does not mean that this minimum requirement can be dispensed with."

According to the information, the district administrator had already turned to the Ministry of Education in a letter on Thursday.

In it, he had demanded that classroom training in the Görlitz district only be permitted if all staff had previously been tested for an infection with the corona virus.

Secondary schools and grammar schools in the Free State open on Monday for the time being without compulsory testing because not all schools have enough self-tests available.

"I therefore expect the Free State of Saxony to deliver the schools with rapid tests as soon as possible, which is assured for Wednesday," said Lange.

He also offered to provide the district with existing tests in advance.

According to the district office, the number of new infections in the Görlitz district on Sunday was 110 per 100,000 inhabitants in one week.
