Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The Brandenburg state government wants to make traveling in the corona pandemic financially safer for consumers.

The advance payment required by flight and travel providers is an additional burden on many consumers, said Consumer Protection Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) on the occasion of World Consumer Day on Monday (March 15).

In addition, the protection against bankruptcy is not sufficient.

Brandenburg is campaigning in the Federal Council for insolvency insurance through travel insurance funds and a review of the advance payment practice by the federal government.

The head of the consumer association Brandenburg, Christian Rumpke, criticized in the joint announcement that many tour operators and airlines did not pay back money for pre-financed trips that did not take place, or were very late.

The need for advice from the Brandenburgers at the consumer center was ten percent greater in Corona year 2020 than in the previous year, and above all there were more questions about travel - their share rose from 4 to 20 percent.

Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) hopes that, despite Corona, he can go to the Baltic Sea with the family in the summer as every year.

"I hope that the situation will relax by then," he told the "Märkische Allgemeine" (Saturday).
