Stuttgart (dpa) - For the relatively weak performance of the AfD, top candidate Bernd Gögel also blames the corona pandemic.
"The voters tend to gather behind the actors and behind the rulers," Gögel told the Phoenix news channel on Sunday evening.
"Therefore a loss was to be taken into account and to be expected."
The goal of remaining the third strongest force in the state parliament seems to have been achieved.
According to an extrapolation, the AfD performed worse in Baden-Württemberg than five years ago.
