March 13, 2021About 200 Russian activists and opposition politicians were arrested today at the "forum of independent municipal councilors" in the Izmailovo hotel in Moscow: the Russian Interior Ministry reports, accusing the forum participants of violating the rules anti-Covid and stresses that the event was attended by "members of an organization whose activities are considered unwanted on Russian territory".

Among those arrested, according to the NGO Ovd-Info, are Ilya Yashin, an opposition politician who leads one of the municipal districts of Moscow;

Yevgeny Roizman, former mayor of Ekaterinburg;

Yulia Galyamina, former member of the Moscow municipal council.

Many observers believe the police blitz is yet another act of political repression in Russia, where parliamentary elections are scheduled for September.
