March 13, 2021 American authorities classify five Chinese telecommunications companies, including Huawei and Zte, as a "threat to national security".

The other three are Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and Dagua Technology.

"Americans rely on our networks more than ever to work, go to school and access health care. For this we need to make sure communications are secure," says the Federal Communications Commission.

The compiled list of five companies "offers guidelines" to ensure that the next generation of networks "do not repeat the mistakes of the past or use equipment and services that threaten national security or the security of Americans."

Xiaomi must be removed from the blacklist of the Trump era

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi must be removed from a blacklist drawn up by the Trump administration, according to a ruling by a Washington judge, pending a court decision on the merits.

The US defense and treasury departments, which had blacklisted the Chinese company, "did not prove that the national security interests at stake in this case were imperative," the judge said, in a ruling which Afp has read.

Xiaomi must therefore be removed from this list, at least temporarily, and the ban on US investors from buying Xiaomi shares is suspended.

It is also forbidden to call it "Chinese Communist Military Society".

In its appeal filed in January to contest and cancel its placement in this blacklist, Xiaomi spoke of a "wrong" decision, which "deprived the company of a fair trial".

Xiaomi, which overtook Apple to become the third largest smartphone maker in the world in 2020, is one of nine Chinese companies on the blacklist.
