Munich (dpa) - The new report on sexual abuse in the Catholic Archdiocese of Munich and Freising is expected to be published this summer, according to Cardinal Reinhard Marx.

"I think if we see our report in the summer, there will certainly be some points where we can get even better, where some things are not yet as we might imagine," said Marx on Saturday at the Spring General Assembly of the Diocesan Council of Catholics in the Archdiocese

The Archdiocese of Munich commissioned the report from the Westphal Spilker Wastl (WSW) law firm - as did the Archdiocese of Cologne, which prevented the report from being published at the last minute and was therefore heavily criticized.

The new Munich report is to examine the years 1945 to 2019 and also be published - unlike the Cologne report and different from the last time in Munich.

The so-called "Westphal report" from the same law firm from 2010 is still under lock and key.

At the online meeting for his diocese, Marx rejected the latest accusations that the church had not learned anything in the area of reappraisal and prevention in ten years.

This is not true, he stressed.

The former chairman of the German Bishops' Conference in Germany sees the reform process of the Catholic Church on the right track.

"Hopefully we will also take new ideas with us from the Corona period - for the future of the Church and the future of our community," said Marx to the approximately 140 participants in the archdiocese's highest lay committee.

The Catholic Church must do its homework and reposition itself.

"As a church, we will only find our future, even in this society, if we are committed to others," he emphasized.
