Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Saxony-Anhalt will receive around 70 percent fewer vaccine doses from the manufacturer Astrazeneca in the next three weeks than previously promised.

The Ministry of Social Affairs announced this on Saturday in Magdeburg.

«That is a severe damper for vaccination progress in the country.

We have to react to this and adjust our distribution, ”said Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD).

The reduced vaccine deliveries will be divided equally between the Magdeburg and Halle vaccination centers over the next two weeks.

Given the small amount, the delivery of all vaccination centers in the country is not effective, said the minister.

"In addition, we have to postpone the police vaccinations for the time being," said Grimm-Benne, according to the announcement.

The vaccine manufacturer Astrazeneca announced on Friday that instead of the 220 million doses last targeted, it would only deliver 100 million to EU countries by the middle of the year.

The group justified this with export restrictions, among other things.

According to the ministry, the delivery volume for the state should stabilize again.

In Saxony-Anhalt on March 3, police officers began to be vaccinated against the corona virus.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, there were 80 men and women at the start.

In the following weeks, according to the Interior Ministry, hundreds of police officers should be supplied with the vaccine from Astrazeneca.
