An Iranian freighter was attacked by explosives in the Mediterranean
Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, March 12 (Reporter Xia Chen) The Shipping Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran said on the 12th that a freighter of the company was recently attacked by explosives in the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The hull was partially damaged and there were no crew casualties.
Iran’s national television quoted the shipping company’s spokesperson as saying that the freighter from Iran to Europe was hit by explosives while sailing in the Mediterranean international waters on the 10th. After assessing and repairing the damage, the freighter will continue sailing.
The spokesperson said that the attack violated international laws concerning the safety of commercial shipping, and relevant agencies will investigate the identity of the perpetrators in accordance with legal procedures.
On February 25, an Israeli cargo ship exploded in the Gulf of Oman. The hull was damaged, but there were no casualties.
The Israeli side believes that Iran is related to the explosion, but the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly opposes the allegation.
