Three men in Hong Kong who stole toilet paper were sentenced to 40 months in prison by the court.

The cost of the toilet paper stolen by the defendants was 248,000 won.

It can be unfair to the defendants.

Why did the court rule this way?

● Shortage of toilet paper due to the spread of corona...

The

incident occurred on February 17 last year

when a delivery man was threatened with a weapon and 600 rolls of toilet paper

were

taken

.

At around 6 a.m., three men came in front of a supermarket in Mongkok, downtown Hong Kong, as a delivery man was unloading goods from a transport vehicle.

One of these was holding a weapon.

They took 600 rolls of toilet paper rolls.

It was 1,695 Hong Kong dollars, and our money was worth 248,000 won.

The suspects were warehouse worker Ho Mo (27 years old), transportation worker Lee Mo (34 years old), and steelmaker Lee Mo (30 years old).

The time they committed the crime was when Corona 19 was just spreading in Hong Kong.

According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post, rumors of a shortage of daily necessities at the time spread quickly through online and other outlets, and toilet paper ran out of stores across the city.

Stores were selling toilet paper limits per person.

Mr. Ho first approached the toilet paper delivery man and asked what time the supermarket was open. One minute later, he returned with the other two with a weapon.

After threatening the delivery man with a weapon, he ran away with 600 rolls of toilet paper in a cart prepared in advance.

Upon receiving the report, the Hong Kong police immediately launched an investigation.

Based on CCTV, etc., the suspects were arrested in a building one block away from the supermarket.

All 600 rolls of stolen toilet paper were also recovered.

It was an hour and a half after the incident.

● The defendant "did not steal valuables"...

The court “The value of toilet paper at the time was more than the market price,”

Mr. Ho and others were handed over to trial, and they all admitted the charges.

She appealed for good cause, such as apologizing to the delivery man through a lawyer.

He asked for consideration for the fact that no one was injured, did not plan the crime in advance, did not steal valuables, and that all the stolen toilet papers were recovered.

However, the court's judgment was that the crime was not light.

When I saw the situation where I was carrying a weapon and prepared a cart in advance, I decided there was room for a planned crime.

Above all, he said, "The value of toilet paper at the time was never low."

As it was in short supply, it was that the market price should not be used alone to judge its value.

On March 11, the court sentenced Mr. Ho and others to 40 months in prison.

If this verdict is confirmed, they must have been imprisoned for more than three years for stealing 280,000 won worth of toilet paper.

● Corona'housing' in each country…

According to CNN "Corona 19 Reveals Humanity,"

Chinese media said that when Corona 19 began to spread in February of last year, the supply of daily necessities such as masks, food, oil, and toilet paper did not keep up with demand.

Rumors have spread that a mainland plant in China has been shut down.

Soon it led to'housing'.

South China Morning Post reported that Hong Kong retail sales in February of last year fell 44% from February 2019, but supermarket sales and food sales increased by double digits as Hong Kong citizens began stocking up on rice, eggs, and toilet paper. .

It wasn't just about Hong Kong.

In Australia, there was even a scab over toilet paper.

In the United States and Europe, which are called advanced countries, stocking of daily necessities also showed polarity.

There are criticisms that wealthy countries are now hoarding over the COVID-19 vaccine.

The U.S. CNN broadcast once said that the coronavirus is showing how irrationally humans can behave.

Even recently, hate crimes against Asians have been committed in some Western countries.

There is no guarantee when the corona crisis will end, but hope is shown as the vaccine is being vaccinated worldwide.

We look forward to the restoration of reason and humanity before the end of the corona.
