It was on 28 November that the Swedish Transport Administration applied to the county administrative board for an exemption to carry out the work at night in the Kanaltorget / Kvarnberget area in Gothenburg for three months - all to meet the schedule for the Västlänken project.

These works would exceed noise guideline values.

But the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland decided on 17 December not to approve such an exceeding of the noise levels.

New decisions

The Swedish Transport Administration appealed this decision to the Land and Environment Court, which followed the authority's line and approved such a deviation from the noise guideline values - a decision which, according to the court, would apply immediately.

This time it was the county administrative board's turn to appeal, and on 8 February this year, the Supreme Court granted leave to appeal.

At the same time, it was decided that the Land and Environmental Court's ruling would not apply until further notice.

In connection with that decision, the schedule was changed slightly.

Unclear consequences

Today came the verdict, where the county administrative board's original decision is upheld.

- It is too early to say what consequences this will have on the whole.

But precisely these works were already stopped, so here it means nothing for the current schedule, says Ulf Agnberg, communications manager at the Västlänken project.
