Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - In the Corona year 2020, the number of corporate and consumer bankruptcies applied for in Hesse decreased significantly compared to the previous year.

The state statistical office announced on Friday in Wiesbaden that the feared wave of insolvencies did not materialize.

At the same time, the experts pointed out that companies affected by the corona pandemic had initially been exempted from the obligation to file for insolvency.

In the pandemic year 2020, 1265 corporate insolvencies were filed - a decrease of around 8 percent compared to 2019, as the state office announced.

The insolvency courts opened 829 proceedings, 436 were dismissed for lack of assets.

The total of the expected claims amounted to over 7 billion euros.

In the hospitality industry, which includes restaurants and hotels, the number of corporate insolvencies fell by almost 13 percent to 110, according to the state office.

The total number of consumer insolvencies applied for decreased by around a third compared to 2019 to 2511 proceedings last year.

Around 2387 consumer bankruptcies were opened, 14 rejected for lack of assets.

The state office announced that a debt settlement plan had been adopted in 110 cases.

The debtor presents the creditors with an offer to pay and thus a settlement proposal.

If the majority of the creditors agree to this plan, there will be no insolvency proceedings.
