Berlin (dpa) - Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has warned in the face of increasing numbers of infections to be careful in the Corona crisis, but is also relying on vaccinations that are still increasing.

"The situation remains tense," said the CDU politician in Berlin.

One still has to be prepared for "some very challenging weeks", in which the balance between health protection and the longed-for return to normality has to be struggled with cautious openings.

Spahn said the vaccination campaign was clearly gaining momentum.

More than seven percent of the population are now vaccinated at least once.

Most recently there were more than 270,000 vaccinations a day nationwide.

Doctors' practices should also vaccinate as early as possible - no later than mid-April.

In view of calls for an earlier start, Spahn explained again that initially enough vaccine had to be available to supply practices and, at the same time, the vaccination centers that the federal states and municipalities wanted to continue to operate.

Even in the doctor’s offices, prioritization in the sequence of vaccinations for groups at risk cannot be dispensed with, said Spahn.

As the amount of vaccine increases, transitions could become increasingly fluid.

The number of nationwide reported new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days is now 72.4, significantly higher than the previous day (69.1), as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Friday.

Four weeks ago, on February 12th, that seven-day incidence had been 62.2.
