In Myanmar, opponents of the military junta took to the streets again on Friday.

In the largest city of Yangon, as well as numerous other cities, opponents of the army rulers gathered, as shown on videos and photos published on the Internet by eyewitnesses and activists.

A Polish journalist who works for the German Press Agency in Myanmar was arrested by security forces in the center of the country.

According to civil rights activists, twelve people were killed in protests on Thursday.

According to the AAPP aid organization for political prisoners, more than 70 people have died since the demonstrations against the military coup on May 1st.

The journalist Robert Bociaga was arrested by soldiers on Thursday in Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State, according to the Myanmar Mix portal, the news company Khit Thit Media and numerous users in social networks.

The 30-year-old is said to have been beaten and injured, according to a reporter from Khit Thit Media on Facebook.

The photos showed Bociaga being surrounded by uniformed men and holding hands over him protectively.

The German Press Agency currently has no contact with Bociaga.

“We were deeply shocked by the arrest and manifest mistreatment of Robert Bociaga.

We are very concerned about our colleagues, ”said dpa editor-in-chief Sven Gösmann.

The German Press Agency condemned the procedure and called on those responsible to release the journalist immediately.

"This is an unbearable, unacceptable attack on the freedom of reporting - and unfortunately not an isolated case even in this brutal form," said Gösmann.

The Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed the arrest of a Polish journalist.

The Polish consul in Thailand and the German consul in Myanmar had confirmed this, it said in a statement quoted by the newspaper "Gazeta Wyborcza".

Every effort would be made to contact the detainee in order to help him and to obtain information about his health and legal situation.

Great Britain advises citizens to leave the country

In the former Burma, since the coup at the beginning of February, security forces have been acting with increasing severity not only against demonstrators but also against journalists.
