Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Children and young people at schools and daycare centers in Saxony-Anhalt should receive corona self-tests as soon as possible.

Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) said on Friday in the Magdeburg state parliament a delivery with a million so-called stick tests is expected next week.

They are to be delivered to the facilities from March 22nd.

This could also be used to test the children and adolescents for the corona virus.

In doing so, the state is implementing a demand that, among others, the teachers' union GEW and representatives of the state student council had raised several times in the past few weeks.

Since March 1st, daycare centers and schools - with the exception of the special Burgenland district - have been open again for all children and young people.

After two and a half months of emergency operation, there are daily primary school lessons as well as the so-called changeover model with divided groups in the secondary schools.

In the Burgenland district, this school operation should also be resumed on Monday due to the lower number of infections.

So far there have only been corona self-tests for staff at daycare centers and schools.

The state government justified this with the fact that there were liability risks with the conventional test if they were used on minors.

After the approval of several corona tests, in which the samples can be taken, the Ministry of Social Affairs looked for an offer that is also easy to use for minors.

Now the first delivery should come.

At the same time, the purchase of rapid tests for the state staff is in progress, said Grimm-Benne.
