Schwerin (dpa / mv) - With the start of the use of corona self-tests in schools, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is expanding face-to-face teaching in the coming week.

As the Ministry of Education announced on Friday, students in the higher grades should also return to schools from Wednesday.

In regions in which the so-called seven-day incidence on March 10th was between 50 and 100, the alternating lessons for all students from grade 7 start on this day. The districts of Vorpommern-Greifswald, Rostock, Ludwigslust-Parchim and are affected the state capital Schwerin.

On March 22nd, regular daily operations are to start again for children in grades 1 to 6 under pandemic conditions.

In the city of Rostock and in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, the schools were opened earlier because of the comparatively low number of infections there.

In the Mecklenburg Lake District, which now also has fewer than 50 corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, the alternating lessons begin on Monday.

In any case, pupils in the final classes have long been able to come to schools to prepare for exams.

Supervision was offered for the lower classes if required.

In north-west Mecklenburg alone, where the seven-day incidence was over 100 on the cut-off date, the stricter protective measures initially continue to apply to the larger without classroom instruction.

The return to schools is especially important for older pupils from the 7th grade, said Education Minister Bettina Martin (SPD).

“Because most of them haven't been able to go to school for weeks since the Christmas break.

It is high time that they were able to receive face-to-face tuition again and have direct contact with the teachers and classmates. "

Classroom teaching in the school and direct personal contact cannot be replaced by anything.

The school opening will be flanked by additional protective measures.

From March 17, all teachers and students from grade 7 onwards will initially be offered a voluntary corona self-test once a week, it said.

The same will apply from March 22nd to students and teachers in the lower grades.

The distribution of the tests will begin on the weekend.

The technical relief organization delivers them to central school locations, where they can then be picked up from Monday.

The voluntary and free tests are easy to use and have no side effects.

If there are signs of infection, there are clear guidelines about which the schools are informed.
