Ingolstadt (dpa) - The Adler Mannheim are simply not to be beaten by the strongest competition in the southern group.

Despite a quick 0: 3, the championship favorites of coach Pavel Gross won 6: 4 (3: 3, 2: 1, 1: 0) at ERC Ingolstadt on Friday evening.

Against the third place in the table, the Adler have won all four preliminary round games of this season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) as they did against the second-placed EHC Red Bull Munich.

In an entertaining duel in Ingolstadt, just 6:15 minutes were played when Mannheim's goalkeeper Dennis Endras had to accept the third goal.

But the Adler equalized in the first third thanks to goals from Nicolas Krämmer (8th), Craig Schira (13th) and David Wolf (19th).

In addition, Mark Katic (29th), Taylor Leier (34th) and Benjamin Smith (60th) joined the list of goalscorers.

Ingolstadt was not enough after the furious start and the clear lead by Brandon Defazio (1st), Wojciech Stachowiak (3rd) and David Elsner (7th), the further goal by Ryan Kuffner (29th).

Mannheim has only lost one of the last ten games.

The group-internal preliminary round games end for the champions of 2019 and sovereign leaders of the southern group on Sunday against the Augsburg Panthers.

From March 20, the group-wide games of this DEL season, which has been changed due to the coronavirus pandemic, will begin.
