And compared this campaign to a war effort.

With our correspondence in Washington,

A year ago we were struck by a virus and the answer was silence

" begins Joe Biden.

The president takes a small card from his pocket: it indicates the number of American victims of the coronavirus.

"

527,726. That's more dead than in WWI, WWII, Vietnam War and September 11 combined

."

Empathetic, the president talks about the victims, their families, those who have lost their jobs.

This virus has separated us and too often it has divided us

" he laments before denouncing the attacks of which Americans of Asian origin are victims.

Then he becomes combative, and announces, "

Thanks to all the work that we have done, we will have enough doses of vaccine for all adults in the United States by the end of May."

 "

The president evokes a gigantic campaign to exceed two million vaccinations per day but warns: “

I need you.

I need every American to do their part.

I need you to get your shot when it's your turn and you can find a chance.

And I need you to help your family, your friends, your neighbors, to get vaccinated too

”.

Joe Biden calls not to let our guard down and promises them that if they make the necessary efforts, they will be able to celebrate July 4 with friends around barbecues.

If everyone gets down to it, if we do this together, on July 4th, there is a good chance that you, your family and your friends, will have the opportunity to come together in your backyard or in your neighborhood to celebrate the independence day around a barbecue.

After this long and difficult year, it would make this Independence Day a truly special day, where we can not only mark our independence as a nation, but start celebrating our independence in the face of this virus.
