March 12, 2021 Weekly monitoring of the control room notes that the epidemic is expanding.

In the period 17 February - 2 March 2021, the mean Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.16 (range 1.02-1.24), an increase compared to the previous week and above one in the whole range.

An Rt value greater than 1 indicates that the epidemic is expanding, with the number of cases increasing.

In the week 1-7 March 2021, an important acceleration in the increase of the incidence at national level continues to be observed compared to the previous week: 225.64 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (01/03 / 2021-07 / 03-2021) against 194 , 87 per 100,000 inhabitants (02/22/2021 - 02/28/2021).

Intensive care

The ICU employment rate nationwide is overall on the rise and above the critical threshold (31% vs 26% last week).

The number of people admitted to intensive care is increasing from 2,327 (02/03/2021) to 2,756 (09/03/2021);

the number of people hospitalized in medical areas is also increasing, passing from 19,570 (02/03/2021) to 22,393 (09/03/2021).

Iss points out that there are strong inter-regional variations with some regions where these numbers "combined with the incidence still impose restrictive measures".

Iss, strong increase in cases not associated with transmission chains

There is a sharp increase in the number of new cases not associated with transmission chains (50,256 against 41,833 the previous week).

The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing remains stable (28.8%).

On the other hand, the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms increased (37.8% against 35.2% the previous week).

Finally, 20.2% of cases were detected through screening activities and in 13.2% the reason for the diagnostic assessment was not reported.
