Lausane (dpa) - The International Olympic Committee has unanimously passed the new reform plan pushed by IOC boss Thomas Bach.

With Agenda 2020 + 5, the Olympic movement is to be made fit for the future, as Bach affirmed on Friday on the last day of the 137th IOC session.

With 15 guidelines, the IOC wants to promote digitization, address young people better and involve e-sports, strengthen the fight against doping and strengthen the rights and obligations of athletes.

In addition, the Olympic Games should become more sustainable and continue to grow in importance.

The reform program is the continuation of Agenda 2020 initiated by Bach in 2014 and is intended to prepare the IOC for a world after the Corona crisis, as the IOC President, who has been in office for four more years, emphasizes again and again.

«We have to prepare for this new world.

We need a vision of what this new world will look like, ”said the 67-year-old.

While Bach and the reform agenda again met with broad approval from the IOC members who were connected to the video, critics point to a number of problems and unanswered questions.

In Tokyo, the IOC will only experience emergency games in the summer due to Corona, the winter games in Beijing in 2022 will be overshadowed by debates about China's human rights violations and the oppression of the Muslim Uyghur minority.

The new Olympic allocation process, which is intended to reduce costs for applicants, is criticized as being opaque.

It is also unclear whether the IOC will give athletes greater freedom in future to market and express political opinions at the Olympic Games.

The restrictions of rule 50 of the Olympic Charter are opposed by several athlete bodies.

According to Kirsty Coventry, Chair of the IOC Athletes Commission, the IOC has exchanged views with 3,500 athletes from 185 countries and will now draw further conclusions from them.
