Bad Homburg (dpa) - Fresenius Medical Care wants to increasingly vaccinate patients against corona in its own dialysis centers in Europe.

"We have the infrastructure and the medical competence and are happy to provide both to accelerate the vaccination campaigns," said Katarzyna Mazur-Hofsäß, head of the dialysis group for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, according to the announcement.

The subsidiary of the Bad Homburg medical and hospital group Fresenius is already vaccinating patients against corona in its dialysis centers in the USA and Portugal.

This model is to be transferred to other countries in Europe in close cooperation with the health authorities.

One also has Germany in view.

Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) cares for more than 66,000 patients in over 800 dialysis centers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

People with chronic kidney disease are a particularly vulnerable group, said FMC.

On average, they are older than 65 years, have other illnesses, a weakened immune system and thus a significantly increased risk of dying from a corona infection.

At FMC, it recently became noticeable that many blood washing patients are dying in connection with the coronavirus and that treatments are therefore canceled.

Therefore, at the beginning of February, the DAX group warned investors of a slump in earnings this year.
