Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) and the party leader of the bourgeois opposition party Venstre, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, agree on the central goals for the forthcoming reopening plan.

The proposal to gradually ease the restrictions until everyone over the age of 50, as well as people in risk groups, has been vaccinated, comes from the Liberal Party.

The plan is that the entire Danish society will then be open again, with the exception of large events, where, for example, evidence of vaccination or a negative covid-19 test may need to be presented.

"I want to praise the Liberal Party's plan"

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) gives the proposal a thumbs up.

- I want to praise the Liberal Party's plan, she said during the debate.

- I agree that when everyone over 50 is vaccinated, we can in principle have an open Denmark, she continued.

Completed plan March 23

The full reopening plan must be negotiated by March 23, according to the Prime Minister.

However, it is unclear when all 50-plus people and risk groups may have received the vaccine.

On Thursday, Denmark paused vaccination with Astra Zeneca's vaccine for two weeks, following several serious cases of blood clots in Europe.

In the revised vaccine plan, all Danes over the age of 16 who want to, must be fully vaccinated in mid-August, one month later than the previous schedule.
